It sure has been an exciting month for Star Wars fans! First the cast of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII was announced (love it or hate it, at least we finally have some faces and names), the first trailer for Star Wars Rebels was revealed, and now even more exciting things are coming forth from a galaxy far, far way.
On May 21, we got a look at the Episode VII set in Abu Dhabi with a special video announcement from director/writer J.J. Abrams. Not much is revealed (mostly is looks like a lot of sand and a few rusty metal contraptions) but what Abrams talked about will get your fan juices tingling.
It’s nice to see that Lucasfilm and Disney are supporting the UNICEF Innovation Labs and Programs and harnessing the power of rabid fandom for good. With just a $10 donation, one of us could appear in a Star Wars movie, how frickin’ cool is that?! You can donate here, the contest ends on July 18. Good luck!
Also announced this week: StarWars.com has confirmed that the first of three solo films (which goes along with Disney and Lucasfilm’s ambition to release a new Star Wars film every year starting with VII) will be released in December of 2016. There have been rumors for months about who the solo films with feature—Boba Fett, Han Solo and Yoda have all been thrown around—and while it hasn’t been announced yet, a writer and director are already attached to the project.
Gareth Edwards, the director of the latest Godzilla, is slatted to direct the first solo film and Gary Whitta, the writer of After Earth and The Walking Dead video games, has been tapped for the screenplay. Judging by the choices, the first Star Wars solo film will probably be action packed. The Fett Chronicles, anyone?
Who would you love to see get their own solo film?
