The Deadpool Movie is Happening, And It’ll Probably be PG-13

Good news, everyone! The long in-development and highly desired Deadpool movie is actually happening! 20th Century Fox confirmed last week that the Merc with the Mouth would be hitting the big screen in February 2016, much to the surprise and shock of us all. Of course, Fox’s commitment may have something to do with that amazing leaked test footage that hit the web in July and the rabidly positive response it got from fans. However, the rumor that the film will be Rated PG-13 has received a less positive response.

And while it does suck that a character who’s very being is tied to blood, guts and copious swear words may have to get cleaned up to try and make it a blockbuster, it’s not the end of the world. Plenty of amazing comic book movies have had PG-13 ratings slapped on them—The Dark Knight Trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy and Days of Future Past to name a few—and they were still able to have violence, smarty-assery and even some dirty jokes. A PG-13 rating on a Deadpool movie doesn’t mean it’ll be catered to a younger crowd, I would consider movies like The Dark Knight to be an adult movie, even without an R rating. Other comic book movies that come from a R-rated genre have crashed and burned lately, including Kick-Ass 2 and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For so you can see why the studio would be hesitant to try it with Deadpool.

And let’s be honest: Deadpool fans are probably going to see a Deadpool movie regardless of rating. And if a PG-13 Deadpool movie becomes a blockbuster, that means the likelihood of more Deadpool movies getting made is high. So this might just be a case of buck up buttercup and just be happy it’s getting made at all.

Now enjoy the Deadpool test footage that is now back on YouTube:
